Accessibility statement

1. Our commitment, and what we did about it

We want everybody to be able to read about these wines and find out who stocks them, whatever they are using to do it. Accessibility was a constraint on this site from the first day of design rather than a pass at the end, and the design system it is built on carries accessibility rules as hard requirements.

In practice that meant:

• Every colour pairing on the site was measured, not estimated, and the results were written into the design system as rules. The house gold fails contrast on a light ground, so it is never text, never a label, never a form border and never a focus ring there. It appears as type only on the dark grounds where it passes.
• Body text is never smaller than 16 pixels, and never set below the contrast the standard requires.
• Everything can be operated from the keyboard alone, including the range filters, the store directory and the age gate.
• The focus indicator is always visible and is never suppressed - two pixels, offset, in a colour that passes against whichever ground it lands on.
• The age gate is a proper dialogue: it is announced as one, it takes focus when it opens, it keeps focus inside itself while it is open, and it announces its errors.
• Nothing moves unless you let it. The one scrolling element starts paused for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion, and it has a pause control of its own that is large enough to hit.
• Every page has a main landmark, a heading structure that makes sense on its own, and a skip link as the first thing you reach.
• Every form announces its errors and its confirmations to a screen reader rather than only showing them.
• Controls are at least 44 pixels in their smallest dimension, so they can be hit on a phone.
• Decorative material - the ornaments, the rules, the crest as decoration - is hidden from assistive technology instead of being read out.
• Italian phrases are marked as Italian, so a screen reader pronounces them as Italian rather than as English.

2. Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. They define three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA and Level AAA.

Covalli is fully conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Fully conformant means that the content fully conforms to the accessibility standard without any exceptions.

That claim covers the pages of this website. The sell sheets and tech sheets you can download from the wine pages are the producers’ own documents, scanned from print, and they are not part of this claim: they are images of paper. Ask us for any sheet and we will send you its contents in a form you can read.

3. Feedback, and how to get help

If you hit a barrier on this site, we want to hear about it. It is the fastest way for us to find the thing we missed.

Write to accessibility@covallivineyards.com, or use the contact form. Tell us the page and what happened, in whatever detail suits you. We reply within five business days.

If something is stopping you from getting information you need, say so and we will get it to you another way rather than make you wait for a fix.

4. Another way to get anything here

Anything on this site can be sent to you in another form. That includes a wine’s tasting note and specifications, the contents of a sell sheet or tech sheet, and any part of the store directory - for example, the shops in one town, as plain text or as a phone call.

There is no form to fill in and no reason to give. Ask and we will send it.

5. Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology

This site is built to work with current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, on desktop and on phones, used with the assistive technology those platforms provide - VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, JAWS, Narrator, keyboard-only operation, voice control, and browser and system zoom.

It should work with older combinations too, but the further back you go the less we can promise, and a browser more than a few versions old may not render the layout as intended.

6. Technical specifications

Accessibility of this site relies on the following technologies to work with the particular combination of web browser and any assistive technologies or plugins installed on your computer:

• JavaScript
• WAI-ARIA

These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.

JavaScript is required. This site is built as a single-page application, so with JavaScript turned off it will not render. That is a technical specification of the site rather than a barrier we intend, and if it is a problem for you, ask us and we will send you what you need.

7. Content we did not make

Sell sheets and tech sheets

The producers’ own printed documents, scanned. They are images of paper, they carry no text layer, and they are outside the conformance claim above. Their contents are sent in an accessible form on request.

Typefaces

The two typefaces are served by Google Fonts. If they fail to load, the site falls back to typefaces already on your device and stays entirely readable.

8. How this was assessed

Self-evaluation. The site was reviewed by us against the WCAG 2.1 level AA success criteria, one criterion at a time, and the colour contrast ratios were calculated rather than judged by eye. The last review was on 16 September 2026.

To be plain about what that is and is not: this site has not been audited by a third party, it has not been certified by anybody, and there is no VPAT or accessibility conformance report behind it. It is our own assessment, honestly made, and the feedback route above exists because our own assessment can be wrong.

9. This statement

This statement was last reviewed on 16 September 2026. We review it whenever the site changes in a way that could affect it, and at least once a year.
